Description

Aconitum ‘Spark's Variety’ (Monkshood). Also known as Aconitum napellus 'Spark's Variety' and
Aconitum 'Henryi Sparks Variety'. An upright perennial with rounded, deeply 5 to7 lobed leaves on thin stems. It bears large, widely branched panicles of violet-blue flowers which are produced in mid and late summer.

Origin

Mountainous grassland of N. Hemisphere.

The name Aconitum comes from the Greek 'akoniton' (Pliny) and Latin 'aconitum' (Virgil) for a poisonous herb. It possibly originates from the the Greek 'akon' - dart. The juice of the plant could be used for poisoning arrows.

Interest and use

Grown for floral interest. Informal cottage-style gardens, herbaceous borders, woodland gardens.
