Description

Carya ovata (Shagbark hickory). This is a tall but open, slender deciduous tree with an attractive bark. It is native to the valley forests in eastern USA. Grows to a height of 24m. The leaves are ovate to lance-shaped and pinnate becoming golden yellow in autumn. Its small nuts are edible.
