Description

Catalpa genus (Bean tree). These are deciduous, summer-flowering trees and shrubs. They are extremely resistant to urban pollution. There are about 11 species.

Interest and use

Grown for their foliage and bell/trumpet shaped flowers with frilly lobes.

Cultivation

They are fully hardy and will prefer full sun with deep fertile, well drained but not too dry soil.

Propagation

You can propagate by seeds in the autumn, and the cultivars by softwood cuttings in the summer or by budding in late summer.
