Description

Ceanothus ‘Perle Rose’ (Californian lilac). It will make a dense evergreen shrub about 2m tall with small crowded leaves and early summer blooms of dark blue in very small but profuse cluster.

Grown for their small but densely clustered, mainly blue flowers. Attractive to bees.

Cultivation

They are frost to half hardy; in cold areas you should plant against a south or west facing wall. They will need a sheltered site in full sun and light well drained soil. Remember to cut out the dead wood from the evergreens in the spring and trim their side shoots after flowering. Cut back shoots of deciduous species to basal framework in early spring.

Propagation

You can propagate by greenwood or heel cuttings in the summer.

Susceptible to honey fungus and scale insects.
