Description

Chamaecyparis nootkatensis (Nootka cypress). This species is an upright conical conifer, The foliage is grey and dark green and it will bear decorative deep blue cones which will turn brown once matured. They can grow to a maximum height of 25m.

Cultivation

They are tolerant of chalky soils but grow best in moist but well drained neutral to slightly acid soil. If the conifer produces more than one leader, to maintain the general conical habit remove all but one leader. To restrict the height of the plant, the leader can be cut back.

Propagation

Propagated from cuttings, naturally forms from seed.

Pests, diseases or disorders

Aphids, honey fungus may be a problem where young plants are more susceptible.
