Description

Chimonanthus genus (Wintersweet). This genus consists of deciduous shrubs which produce scented flowers from early to mid-winter. The leaves are simple thin and textured. The flowers are small and borne in clusters just below the branch tips.

Interest and use

Grown for their fragrant flowers and can be used for flower arranging.

Cultivation

They are frost hardy, but it is a good idea to plant them against a south or west facing wall. They will need full sun and fertile, well drained soil.

Propagation

You can propagate by seeds when ripe, in late spring and early summer, and the cultivars by softwood cuttings in the summer.
