Description

Abies pinsapo (Spanish fir). This species of conifer has a conical crown, the leaves are ridged and dark to grey-blue and about 1-2cms long. It will produce round cones about 10-15cm. The whole tree will grow about 25m tall and 5-8m wide.

Cultivation

It will need to be grown in fertile moist well-drained soil, with full sun with some shelter from the cold winds.

Propagation

Abies seed can be sown in autumn or spring (but forms selected for leaf colour do not come true). Evergreen current growth cuttings in autumn to spring. Deciduous softwood cuttings in summer.

Watch out for honey fungus.
