Description

Cistus genus (Rock rose). These are evergreen shrubs, which will grow in coastal areas. They will produce short lived, showy flowers.

Interest and use

Grown for their succession of freely borne, short lived, showy flowers. Suitable for coastal conditions.

Cultivation

They are frost to half hardy; in cold areas they will need shelter. They will grow well in full sun and light well drained soil. Remember to cut out any dead wood in the spring but do not prune hard. Resents being transplanted.

Propagation

You can propagate the species by softwood or greenwood cuttings in the summer or by seeds in the autumn. The hybrids and cultivars can be propagated by cuttings only in the summer.
