Description

Clematis tangutica (Golden clematis). A deciduous climbing shrub native to Western China. Mid green leaves are lance-shaped to ovate. Single, yellow, bell-shaped flowers are born in mid summer and flower into autumn which are followed by decorative, silky seed heads. Dislikes dry conditions.

Cultivation

They are fully to half hardy. They will require a rich soil that is kept moist, but it is well drained. They should be grown in full sun, but the roots will require shade and protection from too much heat.

Propagation

You can propagate the cultivars in the early summer by softwood or semi-ripe cuttings or layering.

Aphids, mildew and clematis wilt may cause problems.
