Description

Clematis vitalba (Traveller's joy). A deciduous perennial climbing vine native to Britain & Northern Europe. Bears pinnate, ovate to heart-shaped, opposite leaves which are toothed. Its flowers appear in dense, greenish-white, fragrant clusters in the summertime. The stems do twist their way over bushes and up trees! This plant is often found in the wild in Northern Europe.

Cultivation

They are fully to half hardy. They will require a rich soil that is kept moist, but it is well drained. They should be grown in full sun, but the roots will require shade and protection from too much heat.

You can propagate the cultivars in the early summer by softwood or semi-ripe cuttings or layering.

Aphids, mildew and clematis wilt may cause problems.
