Description

Clerodendrum kaempferi. This species of shrub will grow to about 3m high with broadly ovate deep green leaves. The flowers are fragrant panicles of red-white blooms followed by red, blue or blue-black fruits.

Cultivation

Thin out crowded growth in spring. Stems require support. They are fully hardy to frost tender, min 5C and will need humus-rich, well drained soil. Give them a position in full sun with partial shade in the summer. Make sure you water them freely in the growing season, and less at other times.

Propagation

Propagation is by seeds in the spring, or by softwood cuttings in late spring or by semi-ripe cuttings in the summer.

Pests, diseases or disorders

Whitefly, red spider mite and mealy bug may be a problem.
