Description

Aeschynanthus longicaulis (Long-stemmed basket plant). Also known as Aeschynanthus marmoratus or Aeschynanthus zebrinus, this plant is an evergreen perennial with a trailing habit. Leaves are long, lance-shaped and dark green in colour. The flowers are tubular and dark orange and continue to flower from late summer to the end of autumn.

Cultivation

Grow these plants in a humus-rich, well-drained soil, in semi-shaded, humid conditions. Under glass use a mixture of three parts coir to one part moss. Water with soft water such as rainwater.

Propagation

Semi-hardwood cuttings in summer. Strike them into a gritty, free draining compost at a temperature of 19C.
