Description

Coprosma repens (Mirror plant). A low spreading, evergreen shrub or small tree native to New Zealand seashores. Bears leathery, obovate to oblong, glossy, deep green leaves. Insignificant flowers are followed on female plants by small, orange-red fruit in late summer and autumn. This is the species most commonly planted to withstand coastal winds, growing where little else will survive.

Cultivation

They are half hardy to frost tender, min 2-5C. They will prefer full light and well drained soil. You should water the containerized specimens freely in the summer and moderately at other times. Separate male and female plants are needed to obtain fruits.

Propagation

Pruning will maintain leafiness. By seed in spring and semi-ripe cuttings in late summer.
