Description

Crataegus laciniata (Oriental thorn). A compact spreading deciduous tree from Turkey, the Balkans and Caucasus. The broadly diamond-shaped leaves, green frosted white with hairs, are deeply divided into narrow lobes. The large white flowers appear in early summer in small clusters and are followed in autumn small orange-red fruit.

Cultivation

They are fully hardy and will prefer full sun, they are suitable for almost all situations and may be grown in any but very wet soil.

Propagation

Prone to fireblight, controlled only by prompt removal and burning of affected branches. Also ‘pear and cherry slug’.

Pests, diseases or disorders

Fireblight is sometimes a problem. Honey fungus rust.
