Description

Crinodendron hookerianum (Lantern tree). A multi-stemmed tree from the rainforests of southern coastal Chile on and about the island of Chiloe. Deep green leaves are narrow and strongly veined. Conspicuous deep red buds appear in autumn, and the pink red, cup-shaped flowers do not reach their full size until the next spring. In the wild they can be 9 m tall otherwise grow to 3m in cultivation.
