Description

Crocosmia genus (Montbretia). This plant is from south African. It will form a dense clumps of sword-shaped leaves. Above the leaves you will find horizontal spikes of attractive tubular flowers which are borne in the summer.

Interest and use

Grown for their brightly coloured flowers produced mainly in summer. Suitable for coastal conditions.

Cultivation

They are frost hardy and will require well drained soil with an open sunny site. In very cold areas, you should plant in a sheltered position or lift and store for the winter.

Propagation

You can propagate by division of the corms as the growth commences in the spring. Keep the chains intact if possible.

Pests, diseases or disorders

Red spider mites may be a problem.
