Description

Crocosmia aurea (Montbretia). This species is from South Africa. Has a 1m stem bearing a branching spike of yellow to orange, 8 cm tubular flowers in early summer. Great for cuttings. Leaves are lance-shaped and pale green. Fruit are small bead-like capsule. Likes a shaded position.

Cultivation

They are frost hardy and will require well drained soil with an open sunny site. In very cold areas, you should plant in a sheltered position or lift and store for the winter.

Propagation

Plant the corms in winter. Will multiply freely, shouldn't be divided (unless overcrowded in spring if necessary).
