Description

Cyclamen persicum (Persian cyclamen). This species can grow up to 30cm tall with a similar spread. The crowded heart-shaped leaves are marbled light and dark green with silver bands. The flowers are large waxy and profuse, they will bloom in shades of white, pink, red or purple, sometimes with ruffled or edged with a contrasting tone.

Cultivation

They are fully hardy to frost tender, min 5-7C and will require humus-rich, well drained soil with sun or partial shade. If pot grown, in summer dry off tubers of all except C.purpurascens (which is evergreen and flowers in summer); repot in autumn and water to restart growth.

Propagation

Plant your bulbs flat side down and maintain an even moisture. Planting depth should be 2 to 3 inches.

Pests, diseases or disorders

Aphids, botrytis and thrip may be a problem.
