Cypripedium genus (Lady's slipper orchid). These are deciduous terrestrial perennials. The leaves are broad, thin and pleated, and they emerge from the rhizomes in the spring. The flowers are borne in the summer on upright stems, either singly or several on the one stem.

Grown for their beautiful and unusual flowers.
Except in mild areas, orchids are best grown in pots and kept in greenhouses during cold weather and winter.
Propagate by division of tubers where possible, or orchids with pseudobulbs may have older leafless ones removed and repotted.
Susceptible to grey mould and slugs.
