Cyrtomium genus (Holly fern). There are about 12 species of evergreen ferns. They are clump-forming, terrestrial ferns with pinnate fronds radiating from short erect rhizomes covered with scales. The broad segments may be toothed, and on fertile fronds, the rich brown spore are sprinkled densely over their undersides producing an interesting effect. They are half hardy and will do well in semi-shade with humus-rich, moist soil. You will need to remove the fading fronds regularly. Propagation is by division in the spring or summer or by spores in the summer.
