Description

Agrimonia eupatoria (Agrimony). Also known as Agrimonia odorata, this plant has an upright, mostly un-branched stem. The leaves have grey-woolly hairs on their undersides, and are mid green, and toothed. It has five oval, pointed sepals and the same number of yellow, oval petals. The flowers are scented of apricot and the seed capsules are hooked and stick to clothing and fur.

Origin

This plant is often found in the wild in Northern Europe.

Interest and use

Wildflower/meadow plantings. Once used as medicine for colds and as a snake-bite antidote. It has also been used as a form of wine with the addition of ginger, oranges and lemons. The dried leaves are also used as a tea.

Cultivation

Prefers full sun, but can tolerate semi-shade. Adapted to alkaline soil but can tolerate slight acidity.
