Agrostemma genus (Corncockle). This is a genus of summer flowering annuals, which contains the species Agrostemma githago, also known as the Corncockle.
The name of this genus comes from the Greek word 'agros' meaning 'field' and 'stemma' meaning 'crown or garland' possibly because the flowers were woven into head-dresses at harvest festivals.

They are fully hardy, and will grow in a sunny position. The flowers do best in very well drained soil that is not very fertile. Support the flowers with sticks and dead-head to prolong flowering.
