Description

Daphne genus. These are evergreen, semi-evergreen or deciduous shrubs. They produce simple, leathery leaves and small highly fragrant tubular flowering clustered at the shoot tips or leaf axis. Some of the dwarf species and cultivars are good for rock gardens.

Interest and use

Fragrant, tubular flowers which are very attractive to birds and bees.

Cultivation

They are fully to frost hardy. Most will need full sun with fertile, well drained but not too over dry soil. Resents being transplanted.

Propagation

You can propagate the species by simple layering, seeds when fresh or semi-ripe cuttings in the summer.

Pests, diseases or disorders

Is susceptible to viruses that cause leaf mottling. Sap of fruits may irritate the skin.
