Description

Dendrobium ‘White Surprise’ (Orchid). There are about 1,200 species in this genus. They will grow epiphytically, on rocks and even in swampy ground. The clump formers will make fat pseudobulbs. The species with long, stem-like bulbs will often carry their flowers in sprays in the axis of the fallen leaves. The flowers can be colourful and are very attractive.

Cultivation

In temperate climates, they need to be grown in greenhouses. Can be grown in pots but also on slabs of bark. Weak foliar feeds can be added to the sprays.

Propagation

Older leafless pseudobulbs which can be removed for replanting, or from new growth which may appear from the bottom of the plant.

Pests, diseases or disorders

Susceptible to red spider mites and mealy bugs.
