Description

Dendrobium nobile (Orchid). A semi-deciduous, epiphytic orchid from parts of India and Southeast Asia, and a parent of many fine hybrids. Is a soft-cane type, about 45cm high, has lance-shaped to ovate leaves. In spring, fragrant pale red pink flowers (with gold on the labellum) appear.

Needs

Cultivation

In temperate climates, they need to be grown in greenhouses. Can be grown in pots but also on slabs of bark. Weak foliar feeds can be added to the sprays.

Propagation

Older leafless pseudobulbs which can be removed for replanting, or from new growth which may appear from the bottom of the plant.

Pests, diseases or disorders

Susceptible to red spider mites and mealy bugs.
