Abutilon ‘Red Queen’ (Flowering maple). A smaller Abutilon which only grows to 3 feet and which produces lots of small, bright red flowers on upright stems.

Cultivation

Abutilon are frost hardy to frost tender, min 5-7C. They need full sun or partial shade and fertile, well-drained soil. In the growing season, young plants may need tip pruning to promote bushy growth. Mature specimens may have previous season's stems, so cut back annually in early spring. Tie lax-growing species to a support if necessary. Keep under glass in full light and water freely. Water containerised specimens freely when in full growth, less at other times.

Propagation

Propagate Abutilon by seed in spring or by softwood, greenwood or semi-ripe cuttings in summer.

Whitefly, red spider mite and mealy bug.
