Description

Allium ampeloprasum (Wild leek). This Allium has a tall, robust habit; its cylindrical stems reach a height of up to 4 ft (1.2 m). Paper-like bracts drop off the globe-shaped umbels as the flower opens. Leaves have a wax-like texture, are up to 40cm long and are grey-green with rough margins. One of the larger, leafier Alliums, it has a bulb with a garlic-like flavour.

S. Europe to W. Asia.

Adaptable to many other environments, especially for rocky, coastal situations.
