Description

Allium angulosum (Mouse garlic). This species of Allium will produce linear medium green leaves, and the flowers are produced in umbels of white to pale pink small blooms. The bulbs are narrow and elongated.

C. Europe to E. Asia - Siberia

Interest and use

Grown mainly as an ornamental but bulbs and leaves are also edible and used in salads. In Siberia, it is preserved in salt and for use in winter.

Cultivation

You should grow in fertile well-drained soil with full sun. The bulbs should be planted in the autumn and will prefer to be grown in hot dry areas in a sandy loam-based potting compost.

Propagation

You can grow from seed when ripe in the spring or divide the clumps, also in the spring.

Pests, diseases or disorders

Watch out for onion fly, downy mildew and white rot.
