Description

Echium wildpretii. A striking biennial from the Canary Islands, this evergreen plant makes a lovely rosette of narrow, silvery leaves. In it's second season bears a single bold spike of small, funnel-shaped, rich red orange flowers. It has an erect habit, growing to a height of 2m or more with a spread of about 65cm.

Cultivation

They are fully hardy to frost tender, min 3C, and will need full sun with fertile, well drained soil. You should water the containerized specimens freely in the summer and moderately at other times.

Propagation

Propagate from seed or cuttings in spring or summer. In mild climates they self- seed readily.

Pests, diseases or disorders

Whitefly may sometimes be troublesome. Contact with foliage may irritate skin.
