Description

Elaeagnus angustifolia (Oleaster). This is an upright spreading, deciduous shrub which will reach a height of 6m. It will bear beautiful silver foliage and fragrant creamy yellow flowers that are followed by yellow fruits. This crop has an minimum optimum growing temperature of 20C and a maximum optimum growing temperature of 32C. Native to Europe and Central Asia. It will prefer full sun with fertile, well drained soil. It will grow into a graceful arching shrub that can reach a height and spread of 20 feet.

Cultivation

They are fully to frost hardy, most evergreen species will thrive in sun or shade, but those with silver leaves and deciduous species will prefer full sun. They will also need fertile, well drained soil. Trim hedges in late summer.

Propagation

Propagate from seed for deciduous species (which fruit freely) and cuttings for the evergreens.
