Enkianthus genus (Pagoda Bush). These are deciduous, slow-growing shrubs from east Asia. They will appear as large tufts of spiky fronds for many years before eventually developing a stout trunk. The leaves are palm-like and often toothed.

They are fully to frost hardy and will need sun or semi-shade and moist, peaty, acidic soil.
