Epidendrum genus. These are upright bushy evergreen epiphytic orchids. They can be found in the wild or on tree branches or rocks. The perennials consist of 3 outer sepals and 3 inner petals, the lowest of which is usually enlarged. The flowers can be colourful and are very attractive.

Grown for their beautiful and unusual flowers.
In temperate climates, they need to be grown in greenhouses. Can be grown in pots but also on slabs of bark. Weak foliar feeds can be added to the sprays.
Older leafless pseudobulbs which can be removed for replanting, or from new growth which may appear from the bottom of the plant.
Susceptible to red spider mites, aphids and mealy bugs.
