Description

Escallonia ‘Gold Ellen’ (Escallonia). This is a bushy dense, evergreen, semi-evergreen or deciduous shrubs, trees and climbers. They will thrive in mild areas. The small, glossy green leaves are toothed leaves and succulent. The flowers are produced in racemes or panicles and have separate white or pink petals. The fruits are small globular capsules shedding fine seeds.

Interest and use

Grown for their profuse, 5 petalled flowers and glossy foliage, which is very attractive to bees. Suitable for coastal conditions.

Cultivation

They are frost hardy, but in cold areas protect from strong winds and grow against a south or west facing wall. They will requires full sun and fertile, well drained soil. Trim hedges and wall-trained plants after flowering

You can propagate by softwood or semi-ripe cuttings in the summer.
