Description

Eucalyptus deglupta (Mindanao gum). A large, fast-growing, evergreen tree with flaking bark the colours of the rainbow. The inner bark is bright green, but matures to dark green, with striking blue, orange, purple and maroon tones.

Leaves are lance-shaped, but become more ovate with age. Pale yellow flowers in spring/summer are followed by dark brown fruit.

Woody perennial, Semi-evergreen, Fragrant

Origin

Only Eucalyptus found naturally in Northern Hemisphere. Thought to originate S. E Asia

Interest and use

Highly distinctive ornamental tree in tropical and sub-tropical gardens and parks. Used as pulp wood in paper manufacture.
