Description

Fagus genus (Beech). This genus consists of deciduous trees, which are grown for their habit, foliage and autumn colour. The insignificant flowers will appear in late spring and hairy fruits which ripen in the autumn to release edible, triangular nuts.

Grown for their habit, foliage and autumn colour. Good for hedging.

Cultivation

They will require sun or semi-shade; the purple-leaved forms will prefer full sun, the yellow-leaved forms prefer a little shade. They will grow well in any but waterlogged soil.

Propagation

Propagate species by seed in autumn, selected forms by budding in late summer.

Pests, diseases or disorders

Problems may be caused by bracket fungi, canker-causing fungi, aphids and beech coccus.
