Fittonia genus (Nerve plant). This genus has about 2 species of evergreen, creeping perennials. They are grown mainly for their opposite short-stemmed leaves and brightly coloured veins, and they are mostly used as conservatory or house plants.
Grown mainly for their foliage. Is useful as ground cover.
They are frost tender, min 15C, and will need a fairly humid atmosphere. Grow them in a shaded position with well drained soil, keep them well watered but avoid waterlogging, especially in the winter. If plant becomes too straggly, cut back in spring.
Propagate in spring or summer, with additional heat, by division or stem cuttings.
Overwatering will cause the leaves to turn yellow.
