Description

Abutilon pictum (Flowering maple). This Abutilon has delicate orange flowers which are veined in a reddish orange to crimson and flushed with deeper orange near the sepals. Sepals are pale green. The leaves are shaped like those of the maple tree, and dark green.

Cultivation

You should grow in fertile well-drained soil with full sun. This shrub will not bloom in deep shade. In the growing season they are usually pruned lightly to promote a bushier growth.

Propagate Abutilon by seed in spring or by softwood, greenwood or semi-ripe cuttings in summer.

Pests, diseases or disorders

White fly and scale insects. Suceptable to Abutilon Mosaic Virus which gives the leaves a crinkly appearance.
