Description

Fuchsia fulgens ‘Variegata’. An upright, deciduous shrub native to Mexico. Grows to 1.5m high with spreading branches and pale green, ovate to heart-shaped leaves to 25cm or more long. Terminal drooping clusters of slender pinkish red with green-tipped sepals are produced in summer.

Cultivation

They are frost hardy to frost tender, min 5C, Most of the species will need a sheltered partially shaded position, with fertile moist but well drained soil. Prolonged low temperatures cause loss of top growth. If top growth dies in winter, cut back to ground level in spring. When grown as pot plants in a green house, fuchsias also need high-nitrogen feeds.

Propagate from seed or cuttings.

Prone to white fly, red spider mites, rust and grey mould.
