Description

Fuchsia procumbens (Creeping fuchsia). A round, creeping, shrub from New Zealand growing to 15cm tall. Bears heart-shaped rounded leaves in amongst them are green, yellow, orange flowers. Large, bright red berries follow. Is good as a groundcover or in rock gardens and hanging baskets.

Cultivation

They are frost hardy to frost tender, min 5C, Most of the species will need a sheltered partially shaded position, with fertile moist but well drained soil. Prolonged low temperatures cause loss of top growth. If top growth dies in winter, cut back to ground level in spring. When grown as pot plants in a green house, fuchsias also need high-nitrogen feeds.

Propagate from seed or cuttings.

Prone to white fly, red spider mites, rust and grey mould.
