Garrya genus (Silk tassel bush). In this genus there are about 13 species of evergreen shrubs and small trees from western USA, Mexico and the West Indies. They are grown for their catkins.

Grown for their catkins in winter and spring, which are longer and more attractive on male plants. Suitable for coastal conditions.
They are frost hardy and will require a sheltered, sunny site and will tolerate any poor soil. It is suitable for growing against a south or west facing wall. Dislikes being transplanted.
You can propagate by semi-ripe cuttings in the summer.
Susceptible to fungal leaf spot.
