Description

Glaucium flavum (Sea poppy). This is a hardy annual and it is grown for its large golden blooms and ornate seed pods which are popular for use in dried arrangements. The foliage is a deep to rich silver-green. They are easy to grow from seed after all danger of frost is past. They do not like to be transplanted, however, and should be sown directly into seed beds or transplanted when the seedlings are still tiny. This plant is often found in the wild in Northern Europe. STEM: Upright, branched, with yellow sap when cut. ROOT: Thick tap-root. HAIRS: Rather sparse, rough. STIPULES: Absent LEAF-STALK: Present or absent on upper leaves. BRACTS: Absent FLOWER STALK: Short SEPALS: 2, separate, soon falling. PETALS: 4, almost equal, nearly circular. STAMENS: Numerous, yellow. STIGMA: 2, nearly stalkless. OVARY: 1, 2-celled. SEEDS: Numerous, minutely pitted.
