Description

Hakonechloa macra (Golden variegated hakone grass). The leaves will turn pinkish bronze-red in the autumn. The flowering spikes are reddish-brown and will appear in the autumn they last into the winter. It has variegated leaves which are mostly yellow, tinged with green. Another appealing aspect of this cultivar is that the leaves turn to a pinkish bronze-red in the autumn. Flower spikes are reddish-brown and appear in autumn, lasting into the winter. If you need to brighten up a shady path or rock garden, it would be hard to top this choice for colour and form. In full sun, the leaves will scorch but too much shade will prevent the full colour of the leaves from forming. Grow them in moist rich soil in a partially shaded spot.
