Description

Halimione portulacoides (Sea purslane). This species forms shrubby mounds in salt-marshes. It consists of tiny yellow flowers and silvery leaves. This plant is often found in the wild in Northern Europe. STEM: Woody below, turning upwards, often rooting. ROOT: Short, creeping rhizome. HAIRS: Swollen, floury-looking STIPULES: Absent LEAF-STALK: 0.3-1cm BRACTS: 23-lobed, bract-like parts cover female flower. FLOWER STALK: Absent SEPALS: Males with 5-lobed perianth, females without perianth. STAMENS: 5 STIGMA: 2 OVARY: 1, 1-celled SEEDS: 1, not released.
