Hedychium genus (Garland flower). These are perennials which have stout fleshy rhizomes. The flowers are individually short-lived but are profuse and fragrant. They are ideal for sheltered borders and conservatories. Frost hardy to frost tender, min 5C. Needs sun and rich, moist soil. Propagate by division in spring; rhizomes should not be divided when dormant.
