Description

Alnus rhombifolia (White alder). This species is a heat and wind tolerant alder. The ovate or oval leaves are 8-12cm long and finely toothed and they are dark green one side and light green underneath. The male catkins are slender and long and will appear before the leaves in the early spring. The female catkins are short and thick and are found on the ends of the twigs.

Screening, shade. Used in traditional medicine by the indigenous people of the Northwest Plateau of America to treat gynecological problems.
