Description

Hottonia palustris (Featherfoil). This perennial produces whorls of submerged foliage. In the summer it will produce spikes of pale purple flowers. This plant is often found in the wild in Northern Europe. STEM: Submerged or floating, turns upright to flower. ROOT: Fibrous; stems root. HAIRS: Absent except for flowers. STIPULES: Absent LEAF-STALK: Shorter than blade. BRACTS: Thin, pointed. FLOWER STALK: About equaling flower. SEPALS: 5, narrowly oblong. PETALS: 5, bases joined into slender tube. STAMENS: 5, attached to petals. STIGMA: 1, club-shaped, style short or long. OVARY: 1, 1-celled. SEEDS: Numerous, angular.
