Description

Hydrangea villosa. This deciduous shrub is a spreading shrub or small tree with lance-shaped to narrowly ovate dark green leaves. The flowers are borne in the summer with corymbs of blue-purple blooms.

Cultivation

They are fully to frost hardy and will prefer sun or semi-shade with fertile, moist but well-drained soil. They will require more shade in dry areas; provide shelter from cold, drying winds. Some hydrangeas become chloritic in shallow chalk soil.

Propagation

Propogate by softwood cuttings in summer or seeds in spring.

Pests, diseases or disorders

Foliage may aggravate skin. Leaf spot, aphids, vine weevil and powdery mildew.
