Hymenocallis genus (Spider lily). There are about 40 species in this genus. They produce beautiful white flowers; they resemble daffodils except for their delicate spider-like petals. Some species are evergreen and all are deliciously scented. They are half hardy to frost tender, min 15C and will need a sheltered site, with full sun or partial shade and well drained soil. Propagation is by offsets in the spring or early summer.

Plant in early summer, lifting for winter in cold districts. Alternatively, grow in a heated greenhouse, reduce water in winter, without drying out completely then repot in spring.
