I have four little ponds that are in varying shades of glorious neglect and that's how me and the birds like them. Too overgrown for fish, they are full of newts and frogs and all manner of creepy crawlies. I really should thin them out but I spend hours picking out the newts when I drag out excess plants and, anyway, I'm quite lazy. If anyone in my area wants some pond plants (complete with little beasties) please let me know because they'll be on the compost when I get round to it. I have no idea what they are called but could photograph them.
For a variety of non-reasons I now have two new pond areas I have to sort out (picture of one under construction). They look horrible at the moment but with a little encouragement nature should have taken over by 2018.

Hi Sol - No posts about ponds and then two come along in one day! I can see from yours and Angie's post that pond life is as much an attraction as the planting. Thank you - it's inspired me to get going with ours.

That looks great Sol. I can't wait for mine to mature and have a variety of visitors using it. My garden as a whole is still immature, the first plants going in around 2011/12 and like many newbie gardens I didn't discover that I should have had the 'structure' in place before bothering about perrenials etc. Still I got there in the end but that now means I have still got my work cut to sort out a couple of more borders yet. When reading up on ponds, I discovered when clearing out a pond you should leave the 'heaps' lying by the side of the pond overnight and then critters will find their own way back into the pond. Have you tried that?

Great to get a look at some other ponds. I built my wildlife pond this year. I am now adding a garden stream to flow down to the pond and add some more interest. Looking forward to seeing I develop. Good luck with yours.
    John.
