Took these off plants around our pond today. Think theyre lilies or irises of some description. Could anyone confirm what they could be?

These look like the native yellow iris to me.

I'm pretty sure that Anne is right and am posting a picture of some pods still on the plant. I know they shouldn't be at this time of year, long after flowering! It's a long story involving broken bones! I do have another moisture loving Iris which I think is Iris kaempferi, but it only flowered quite recently and doesn't have any pods yet.

Yes looks like Iris Pseuadacorus, open the pods the seeds should be large and dark brown. Mine flowered in June but may be earlier further south.
Propogates easily and can be somewhat invasive, nice lakeside plant but with small ponds roots can penetrate liners.

Agree with Jim: Iris pseudacorus or Yellow Flag Iris.

Don't feel bad, Sally Ann, just this morning I had the seed pods bumping my ankles every time I walked round the deck beside the lake (not my garden, I just work there...) and I kept thinking "hmm, must chop those off some time".
